Destination Guatemala, a virtual guide to "alma de la tierra", the soul of the earth. The largely mountainous country is located in Central America south east of Mexico. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean in south, and it has a narrow coastline on the Caribbean Sea. Border countries are Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, and Mexico.
The country is home to more than 30 volcanoes, many of them still active. With an area of 109,000 km² (42,085 sq. mi.), Guatemala is about the size of Bulgaria, or slightly larger than the US state of Kentucky. |
